In the words of one of Rabbi Wise's students:"I had the pleasure of having Rabbi Marge as teacher for my conversion as I live far from the closest Jewish community in my country.
It was a blessing in so many ways. We met weekly for about a year and a half and went through Jewish history, customs, holidays and traditions. We discussed and studied the weekly Torah portion and she taught me to read Hebrew with the utmost patience. In between, Rabbi Marge was extremely patient and wonderful, engaged in detail into my many questions and thoughts and was not only a spiritual but also a philosophical teacher and guide on this amazing journey.
I traveled to her synagogue for the conversion ritual itself, was embraced by the warmth of her community, invited to her house for a true Jewish Shabbat dinner with friends.
I will miss our lessons deeply and will continue to stay connected with Rabbi Marge to refine my Hebrew and enjoy her amazing presence!"
In the words of a couple married by Rabbi Marge (featured above, far right): "We feel so lucky to have found Rabbi Wise. She is an outstanding teacher and mentor who went above and beyond for our family. Though we are in the far flung diaspora, she made us feel integrated into the Jewish community. Each week, we discussed different traditions and the reasons behind them. She is patient and supportive, spending hours encouraging my questions and teaching me to read Hebrew. She showed us the warmth of a Jewish home and gave us the skills to build our own.
Though my husband and I have been legally married for many years, she performed our Jewish wedding so we could have a ketubah. She held a beautiful naming ceremony for our baby girl. It was the perfect way to reflect on how our lives had changed overnight. I treasured my weekly meetings with her and she is still a dear friend and mentor even though my conversion is complete."
From a recent male conversion student: "On Pesach, I had my own personal exodus. Even if Rabbi Marge had only taught me Hebrew it would have been enough. All these wonderful things have happened to me and we’re a part of community that I really feel so deeply in my soul. Thank you for the most beautiful gift. I daven like I was born with it now, and I think of you every time I read Hebrew."
In the words of a recent female conversion student: "I feel incredibly lucky to have connected with Rabbi Wise, who showed me the joy of celebrating Jewish practice and exemplified the compassion that has come to define the religion for me. She has shown me what a robust Jewish life can look like, and through our work together I have come to love Judaism more deeply."
A Congregant phrased it this way: "Rabbi Marge Wise has nurtured our synagogue community from the day she started helping our synagogue with outreach - she is our heart and soul."
A family who found Rabbi Marge through friends: "Rabbi Wise, we had no idea how we would get through my father's funeral, but you helped us every step of the way and we can't thank you enough".
From a Synagogue Member: "If you want the recipe for growing a shul - ask Rabbi Marge Wise, that is one of the things she does best."
In the words of a Jewish communal leader:"To build Jewish community and continuity, you need someone with love and passion - that someone is Rabbi Marge Wise."
From a student Rabbi Marge taught and mentored: "I always wanted to have a bat mitzvah. Now as an adult, I realized my dream. Rabbi Margie made it possible."
